Stephanie Johnstone bio for Pride Toronto award

From Stephanie's bio provided to Pride Toronto, for which she has won the 2009 Pride Toronto Award for Excellence in Sports, which will be presented on June 24.

Stephanie Johnstone currently lives in Woodstock, Ontario, and has been active since youth in many different sports including bowling both five-pin and ten-pin bowling. She currently bowls in three ten-pin leagues. She was a bowling gold medalist in the 2006 Gay Games in Chicago.

In 2003 she was elected Vice-President of IGBO (International Gay Bowling Organization). From 1998-2006 she represented IGBO as a delegate to the Federation of Gay Games (FGG).

During her term as a delegate to the FGG, she was elected as Co-Chair of the Sports Committee from 2001 to 2006 and served as a Vice-President from 2004 to 2005.

As a member of the Canadian Autoworkers Union, she has advocated for the rights of LGBT members in the union. Today, her union has active pride committees across the country and a union leadership that is well-versed on LGBT issues and participates as active allies in our struggles and celebrations.
