Site inspectors in Washington

Site Selection Committee members Roz Quarto of New York, Darl Schaaff of Alaska and Dennis Sneyers of Chicago smiled and waved to the crowd as officials with the D.C. Gay Games Bid Committee welcomed them to Washington. The D.C. Different Drummers gay marching band and Batala Batala, a women’s drum corps, performed in the Site Selection Committee’s honor.

“It’s a great city,” Sneyers told the Blade after the rally. “They’ve got great venues, great support from the mayor and the City Council. From all the venues we saw, from the convention center to the universities, they were all wonderful.”

He added that the coalition of D.C. LGBT sports and business groups organizing the city’s bid under the umbrella organization Washington Gaymes, Inc., “knows what it takes” to put on a major sporting event.

“So it’s going to be a very, very difficult choice for us to make in September,” he said.
