The winner of the first Federation of Gay Games Legacy Award for Academic Scholarship and Research is
Caroline Symons, PhD, a senior lecturer at Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia. Symons has carried out extensive research on LGBT sport and has been a leader in many campaigns against homophobia in sport. Her landmark book on the history of the Gay Games, based on her PhD thesis and entitled
The Gay Games: A History, will be published in December 2009.
