Fight for the right to civil marriage again marks Gay Games

Opening Ceremony of Gay Games VII at Soldier Field in Chicago were marked by numerous (too numerous?) speeches calling for same-sex marriage in the US. Ceremonies in Cologne took note of the more serious threats to gay and lesbian people in many parts of the world, but marriage was still part of the event.

The first same-sex marriage in Argentina took place the day before opening ceremony, and Team Argentina was keen to mark the event, with a huge banner they carried into RheinEnergie Stadium.

And on August 4, at the height of Gay Games VIII, participants had the joy of learning the judge's opinion in the case brought against the constitutionality of California's Proposition 8 that banned same-sex marriage in that state.

Cleveland, Ohio, host of Gay Games IX, offers a domestic partnership registry. By 2014 will same-sex marriages be recognized in Ohio?
