FGG member organization the International Gay and Lesbian Football Association (IGLFA) sharply rebuked comments made by Mr. Vlatko Markovic , President of the Croatian Football Federation in an interview with Croatian national paper Vecernji List.
Mr Markovic remarked that there was no place for gay players on the national football-team, stating "While I'm a president of the Croatian Football Federation, there will be no homosexuals playing in the national team,"
Klaus Heusslein, co-president of IGLFA, an organisation representing lesbian gay bisexual and trans (LGBT) football teams all over the world, invited Mr. Markovic to apologize for the above mentioned comment.
"We are not willing to accept Mr Markovic’s statement, which is not only highly offensive, but is also clearly at odds with Croatian and European anti-discrimination legislation. We will not hesitate to bring this incident also to the attention of the European Court of Human Rights if we do not receive a formal letter of full apology."
IGLFA invites all its members to send letters of protest via fax or Email to the Croatian Football Association.
