In addition to meeting Federation of Gay Games QSAM and our friends from Wellington Outgames, visitors to Midsumma will get a chance to see Matthew Mitcham, who writes:
This year, for the first time, Telstra is supporting Midsumma – Australia’s premier, annual queer arts and entertainment festival, now in its 23rd year – and as a Telstra Ambassador, I’m proud and really excited to be involved in this great event….not only because festivals like this are fun and entertaining, but because they go to the heart of what being an inclusive community is all about.
The Midsumma Festival brings a diverse mix of artists and performers together under a single umbrella for an impassioned celebration and innovative presentation of queer arts and culture. The festival program includes visual art, theatre, spoken word, cabaret, film, live music, sport and social and political forums and debates. Midsumma happens at over 70 different venues throughout Melbourne, celebrating the pride and diversity of Victoria’s lesbian, gay and allied communities.
Telstra, with its visible commitment to gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex inclusion, is a natural partner for Midsumma. Telstra’s technology and people are the key ingredients of this partnership.
So – on Sunday 16 January, I will be at the Telstra stand at Midsumma Carnival in Birrarung Mar on the banks of Melbourne’s Yarra River, from 11am until 1pm. After Carnival, a team of Telstra citizen reporters (made up of great Telstra people) will be attending Midsumma events throughout the festival to blog, tweet and review what’s on offer, using the amazing Motorola DEFY handset on the Telstra Next G network. You can follow their adventures on the Midsumma blog or follow Midsuma on Twitter.
