QX Magazine's Sports Special: When will there be another out English pro footballer?

QX is a free UK gay weekly magazine. Their latest issue, which you can download HERE, is devoted to sports. We're publishing some excerpts to give you an idea of what you'll find in this interesting issue.

Today, a look at the lack of out Premiereship football players:


It’s a well-known fact that every single one of the 4,000 professional footballers in England is heterosexual. Not only that, but since football began in 1863 - that means we’re talking nearly 150 years - there’s been only one gay player.

OK. Reality check time. So much for the official line. Now for the real story. Right now there are half a dozen Premiership players who are as gay as a rainbow poodle. Not bi-curious or experimenting with their sexuality. Full-time, cardcarrying homoxuals. Their team-mates know who they are. So do the fans and the press. You probably know who they are, too. So why don’t they just tell the truth, shame the devil, and get down and party at the Two Brewers with rugby ace Ben Cohen (see page 32)? Then the next time a gay schoolkid’s called a poof, he can say, “So what? So’s the guy who saved your team from relegation.”
