11 October 2011 / Cleveland LGBT Heritage Day

Please mark your calendars for the 2011 Cleveland LGBT Heritage Day Celebrations to take place at Cleveland City Hall Rotunda, 601 Lakeside Avenue.

For more than 35 years, the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Center of Greater Cleveland has fostered change, acceptance and leadership within Northeast Ohio. On October 11 at 5:30 p.m., in celebration of National LGBT month and the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, the center will honor nine Clevelanders who have made a positive impact in the community at ceremony in the Cleveland City Hall Rotunda.

Mayor Frank G. Jackson, Councilman Joe Cimperman and Cindy Yu, interim executive director of LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, will recognize individuals in the following categories:
Neighborhood Leadership, Safety, Advocacy, Education, Faith Based, Social Services, Health Care, Arts and Culture, and Public Service

“I commend these individuals for their commitment, dedication and passion for making a positive impact with Cleveland’s LGBT Community,” said Joe Cimperman, Cleveland City Councilman. “With the recent repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, we are making strides in acceptance, understanding and compassion. These individuals we are honoring live each day to help empower, educate and assist the LGBT community, but Greater Cleveland as a whole. From the bottom of my heart, I thank them for all they do in our city.”
