Outsports.com has been called "ESPN for homos" and receives over two million hits per month. Now, the founders of this groundbreaking website offer an in-depth and entertaining compendium on the issues surrounding gays and lesbians in the sporting world. The Outsports Revolution chronicles the development and rise of the Outsports.com brand and outlines its impact on the world of gay sports. Through more than twenty-five chapters, the book introduces you to both famous out athletes along with the unsung, unknown trailblazers who have helped others come out. With points of view from such figures as the MLB’s Billy Bean, the NFL’s Esera Tuaolo, and Greg Louganis—as well as Molly Lenore, a former college football player who transitioned to a woman and now plays gay flag football; Brian Fell, a two-time NCAA track and field star; and sports professional Larry Felzer, who organized Gay Community Night for the Philadelphia Phillies—this guide chronicles all the issues on this hotly debated subject. Learn about athletes who have come out of the closet and of the impact their revelation has had on their particular sport, the proliferation of gay sporting leagues throughout the country, the myth about why gay men can’t play sports, and many other subjects. Cyd Zeigler and Jim Buzinski are recognized worldwide as the leaders in gay-sports reporting and co-founded Outsports.com in 2000. Together they have appeared on numerous television programs, including ESPN, Fox Sports, and CNN. They have been profiled in hundreds of magazines and newspapers, including The Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, The New York Times, and Sports Illustrated.

Featured product / "Three Generations of the Same Woman"
Doug Mattis shares a revealing while entertaining and touching, peek into his personal life. At the same time providing a glimpse of what is an online phenomenon, the blog. An easy read which will amuse to the point of out loud laughter. Doug weaves common points of emotional connection with most readers. (A sort of, the common sense of it, approach.) Mattis hits the highs and lows of several life experiences. Happily, most are of an enlightening and more entertaining value. However, the author does offer a personal side which brings some bite to the complete product. Oh and that "bite" is most enjoyed by the reader. Believe me, Mattis has the demonstrated literary skills to walk you up and down all paths dark and light.

Featured product / "Trailblazing": Eric Anderson's memoir of coming out as at high school track coach Closets"
Trailblazing, by Eric Anderson At only 25 years of age, Eric Anderson was near the top of his sport, coaching the cadre of distance runners at Huntington Beach High School in conservative Orange County, Calif. Victory on the track gained Anderson high respect as a coach, but he was hiding the truth from his colleagues and his team: Eric Anderson was gay. Then he came out. His team was quickly labeled "the fag team" as the respect Anderson had worked for gave way to homophobia, and his runners were taunted, threatened, and even physically assaulted. Yet through it all, they continued to run, to win, and to support their coach. As Anderson battled for his job and to keep his team running, his athletes, these young trailblazers, stuck by their coach and fought for a cause they were not born into. Trailblazing is the inspiring story of a coach and his team working together for glory against incredible odds and will leave you cheering.

Featured product / Pat Griffin's "Strong Women, Deep Closets"
Strong Women, Deep Closets, by Pat Griffin Griffin draws on her experience as a lesbian coach and athlete for this groundbreaking work intended to "challenge the despised sexual predator image" that so often stalks when women and sport come together. She also draws on 15 years of leading various workshops on homophobia in the world of sport, on previously published writings, and, perhaps most important, on interviews with lesbian athletes, coaches, and sports administrators that she conducted specifically for this book. The resulting 11 chapters consider such things as stereotypes old and new that keep many women out of sport; the defenses of institutionalized sport against lesbianism, including silence, heterosexual-image promotion, and downright attacks on lesbians; the role of the Christian right in sport; and identity management for lesbian coaches and athletes. Written in a brisk, readable style, this generously referenced summary of the lesbian sporting life will appeal to readers of serious sports studies as well as lesbian studies. --Whitney Scott

Featured product / "Training Rules" documentary on lesbophobia in women's college basketball
Narrated by international swimming legend Diana Nyad (National Public Radio), TRAINING RULES examines how women s collegiate sports, caught in a web of homophobic practices, destroyed the dreams of many of its most talented athletes. Specifically, the documentary examines the Penn State s women s basketball program under 26 year veteran Rene Portland. She had three rules in her program: No drinking, No drugs, No lesbians. After years of discrimination documented here, Portland was sued by a player and Penn State was forced to confront the issue.

Featured product / "Straight Acting", a story of gay rugby
From the Amazon.com reader reviews: I saw this movie at NewFest in New York. It's about this guy who joins a gay rugby team. It's pretty much about how he and other guys like him don't fit into traditional "gay" life, but they are gay, and they want to be able to play their sports and live their lives and not have to fake it. There was a lot of humor, and I some of the guys he talks to were really articulate. Overall, the film was sweet and heartfelt. I even got a little tear at the end, when he, the main guy Spencer, cut his head open in a game in England. I recommend it. It's good to screw with people's stereotypes.
