It's all about playing football (soccer) together and talking & celebrating together: Since 1995, a colourful field of 50 teams, gay and straight, has met annually on the "Cologne Jahnwiese" to compete for the Come-Together-Cup (CTC). It is a huge football festival held to support the integration of all minorities and to fight against homophobia and discrimination in football. The proceeds from this event are used to benefit social community projects and, since 2005, to support the RUBICON Advice Centre and the "anyway" Youth Centre.

Die letzte Bastion der Heteros - Schwulenhass im Fußball

Der Männer-Fußball ist eines der letzten heterosexuellen Milieus. Während sich nicht nur Politiker, sondern auch Moderatorinnen, Schauspieler oder Modeschöpfer in den letzten Jahren zu ihrer Homosexualität bekannt haben, ist die Profikickerei in dieser Beziehung ganz of fensichtlich kein Spiegel der gesellschaftlichen Entwicklung, sondern „viel archaischer“, wie Philipp Lahm einmal in einem Interview mit dem schwulen Lifestyle-Magazin Front befand.

Immer noch gilt es – nicht nur hierzulande – als nahezu undenkbar, dass ein Fußballprofi offen schwul lebt. Denn er muss befürchten, durch die Presse gezogen, von den Mannschaftskollegen ausgegrenzt und von den Fans – den eigenen wie den gegnerischen – beschimpft, verhöhnt und ausgelacht zu werden. „Die eigentliche Sexualität wird deshalb“ – so fand die inzwischen eingestellte Fußballzeitschrift RUND heraus, „anonym in der Schwulenszene ausgelebt“; ansonsten werden, „um der Norm und dem Idealbild des heterosexuellen Sportlers zu genügen, von Spitzensportlern und deren Clans mühsam und aufwändig konstruierte Doppelidentitäten mit Frauen und Kindern geschaffen“.

Zwar werden die – möglichen und tatsächlichen – Folgen eines öffentlichen Coming-out bezahlter Balltreter mittlerweile auch in auflagenstarken Medien erörtert. Doch die meisten machen um die Frage, warum sich die Homophobie gerade im Fußball weiterhin nahezu ungehemmt austoben kann, zumeist einen großen Bogen. Genau diese Frage soll deshalb im Mittelpunkt des Vortrags von Alex Feuerherdt stehen. Hinzu kommen eine Reihe von aktuellen Fallbeispielen und ein Kurzfilm zur Schwulenfeindlichkeit im Amateurfußball.

Zum Referenten: Alex Feuerherdt ist als freier Publizist u.a. für KONKRET, die Jungle World, die Jüdische Allgemeine und den Tagesspiegel tätig. Er lebt in Köln und war bis 2005 als Schiedsrichter in der Oberliga aktiv.

Am 16. Juli 2011 fällt der Startschuss für den 3. Run of Colours

In diesem Jahr wird der “Run of Colours” zur Tradition, denn bereits zum dritten Mal fällt am 16. Juli 2011 der Startschuss für den Benefizlauf der Kölner Aidshilfe. Über 1.300 Läuferinnen und Läufer waren bei der zweiten Ausgabe dabei und bestritten wahlweise die 5 oder 10 Kilometer lange Strecke entlang des Rheins und durch den Rheinauhafen. Und auch im Jahr 2011 freuen wir uns wieder auf viele sportliche Höhepunkte im Kölner Rheinauhafen. Melden Sie sich jetzt an und unterstützen Sie mit Ihrem Startgeld die gute Sache. Der Reinerlös des “Run of Colours” kommt wie in den vergangenen Jahren in vollem Umfang Angeboten für Menschen mit HIV und Aids und der HIV-Prävention zugute.

The Come Together Cup, supported by FGG member organization SC Janus, brings together teams, gay and straight, established and ad hoc, representing all sectors of society.

Full house at SC Janus Annual General Assembly

As we post this, the Annual General Assembly of FGG member SC Janus is taking place in a venue familiar to all who attended Gay Games VIII last summer: the Hahnentorburg, the fortified city gate at Rudolfplatz.

At long last, we can see the beautiful Golden Rik Awards won by Gay Games VIII

Here are the Golden Rik Awards won by Games Cologne, one for the best event (Gay Games VIII) and the other for best cultural event (Gay Games VIII opening ceremony). Congrats to all the volunteers of Games Cologne and SC Janus!

And while we're looking back at Gay Games VIII, thanks to Felix from SC Janus for helping to get an important shipment of goods from Cologne back to San Francisco! The last box has arrived, and everything seems to be in one piece.

Shipping issues provided the behind-the-scenes drama for Gay Games VIII, so thanks to the Games Cologne volunteers, to Darl Schaaff and Doug Litwin from the FGG, Valarie McCall from the City of Cleveland, and from several other people who spent a great deal of time and effort in trying to sort out some messy situations!

Quidditch: Dieses wunderschöne innovative und neue Spiel lässt sich nicht nur hervorragend auf einem Besen in der Luft spielen, sondern auch von einem Muggel auf zwei Beinen am Boden. Quidditch ist eine Mischung aus Handball, Völkerball und Basketball.

Wer alle 3 Spiele mag, wird bei Quidditch ganz auf seine Kosten kommen. Hier wird der Quaffel von den Jägern ins Tor der Hüter geworfen, was die Klatscher wiederum zu erschweren versuchen, während die Sucher den Schnatz verfolgen. Erlebe auch DU beim SC-Janus den ultimativen Harry Potter Quidditchspaß!

SC Janus recognized for Street Soccer program

As part of the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Cologne Community Foundation, Cologne was recognized for its "Strafu" street soccer project.

From our experience in our club and in our daily lives, we know how important it is to offer support to young homosexuals. The project (see more HERE) is run wth the Youth Centre ANYWAY, which already has a boys' soccer team ("Hot Shots"). Thanks to this project, we have been able to create a girls' soccer team. Through the street soccer tournament, barriers between young homosexuals and heterosexuals are reduced.

"Strafu" is a proven concept from Potsdam, to create intercultural dialogue, to promote the participation of young people, and to break down prejudices. Last summer a first exchange on this subject took place in the Netherlands. "Strafu" uses the potential of sport to offer young people a platform where they meet and develop social skills. Above all, it highlights the value of teamwork, conflict management, listening, dealing with differences of opinion, and active participation.

SC Janus 30th anniversary

The Federation of Gay Games is delighted to send member organization Sportclub Janus (SC Janus) its congratulations on their 30th anniversary. The celebration in honor of this amazing achievement will take place on Saturday, 20 November at the Gloria Theatre (Apostelnstr. 11).

The festivities will begin at 18.30 with a buffet and show for club members and partners.

From 22.00 doors open for everyone to join the party. Tickets are 8€ for the general public. DJ Ralph Rosenbaum will be playing the top hits of the last 30 years.

All tickets are on sale in the SC Janus office (Monday 17.00-19.00) or at the door.

SC Janus hosts Street Soccer for Tolerance event

From 26-28 November 2010, FGG member SC Janus,Europe's largest gay and lesbian sports organization with nearly 1,500 members, will be organising an event, Strassenfussball für Toleranz, in conjunction with the Cologne youth centre ANYWAY.

The goal of this award-winning program is to integrate gay and lesbian and multicultural groups by means of sport, to promote social activity for young people, and to reduce inhibitions and prejudices against homosexuals. The project aims to youth and young adults, regardless of their sexual orientation, nationality or religious belief.

This street soccer event uses a special scoring system that takes into account the relevant aspects of teamwork, conflict management, listening, and active participation. In addition to points for win, draw or defeat, "fair play" points will be awarded.

The related fair-play rules will be discussed before the game with the game manager, allowing the game to be run run without a referee. Independent player-observers verify compliance with the rules and distribute points accordingly . "Fair play points," thus play a major role in the final of the tournament.

The tournament itself will take place on Saturday 27 November. Applications are open to all youth/young adults who like to play football. A team consists of 5 field players and 1 or 2 observers. Participation is open to all aged 16 to 28 years.

SC Janus team at charity regatta

Gay Games VIII may be over, but the athletes of SC Janus are still at it!

A rowing team from SC Janus took part in the Benefizregetta, a charity event on 26 September at Fuehlingersee, a venue many Gay Games VIII participants are familiar with. Benefits from the race were split between the Children's Hospital and a sports project at a cancer treatment center.

The SC Janus team of  Kelly, Thomas, Torsten, Nicolai and Alf took third place, earning a medal presented by Deputy Mayor Elfi Scho-Antwerpes, who many will remember from her speech at closing ceremony at Tanzbrunnen.
