In 2009, the Federation of Gay Games offered its first Legacy Award for Outreach and Scholarship Support to Dick Uyvari and Joe La Pat. Dick Uyvari and his late partner Joe La Pat are both leading lights of the Chicago LGBT sports scene, as competitors and organisers in bowling and other sports, and more recently as the primary donors to the Gay Games VII scholarship fund, which brought dozens of athletes and artists from around the world to Chicago in 2006.
