Live from Cologne: Los Angeles couple wins a gold in the men's latin dance competition

Live from Cologne report by Steve Valentine, Los Angeles

We entered into the 18+ men's latin competition with 50 other couples representing 16 countries of six being USA. LA, NY, Denver, San Francisco, Sacramento.

We got graded into B class, A being the highest (C,D,E being under us). Of the 18 couples in our category, we were then placed in the semi finals with Denmark, Uk, and others. At the awards ceremony, after competing in cha cha, samba, rumba and jive, we were awarded top prize and a gold medal.

Steve was profiled in the Road to Cologne series at TheQueerTimes.com.

"My story is a bit like Footloose the movie. I grew up dancing in the South (Mississippi) where it was frowned upon. My father didn’t approve, so my mom would secretly teach me dance steps she learned in the 60s, the jerk, the bop, and the monkey."
