While you would expect an event like Gay Games VIII (men's synchronized swimming seen here) to be one of the top news stories in Cologne or 2010, a related story also made the list: the opening of the outdoor swimming pool complex at Sportpark Muengersdorf.
Due to the fact that the pool was just shy of regulation length, the city of Cologne decided to invest in a new swimming complex, which includes a play pool, seen here. The stainless-steel Olympic pool was completed just in time. Alas, the support building was not yet complete by August, so temporary changing facilities had to be used instead.
