Seattle Orca swim club had one entry two years ago and two entries last year in the Puget Sound Swim for Life. How many will sign up this year? More about the event:
It's a little-known fact that thousands of leukemia and other patients every year don't find a life-saving bone marrow donor match in time, even with a national registry of 9.5 million possible donors. The tissue-typing requirements are precise and costly and the donor registry simply isn't long enough.
Swim for Life is your opportunity to change that reality, and have fun doing it.
In just the past two years alone, the swim has raised enough to test and add 1,100 new donors to the national Be The Match registry.
Swim for Life is an annual 2.5 mile, team-based swim across Lake Washington from Medina Beach Park to Madison Park. A team is four or fewer swimmers and a kayaker, so you always have a safety boat near you.
This combination builds team spirit and a collective feeling of accomplishment; many swimmers who meet each other in this event continue to swim together over the year and return as a team the next year.

11 June 2011 / Seattle Frontrunners hold event to support their charity run-walk
It is with great delight and anticipation that Seattle Frontrunners, the producer of Seattle’s long time beloved community event Run Walk with Pride (RWWP), collaborate with RPlace once again for a dynamic, fun and beneficial night, Underwear Fashion Show 2011! You won't want to miss this gala eveningon 11 June as the official RPlace KICK OFF party to SEATTLE PRIDE 2011!
Our beneficiary this year is Three Dollar Bill Cinema, the producers of, among many other events, Seattle’s GLBT Film Festival. Three Dollar Bill Cinema has sponsored the Run Walk with Pride event for years, and as an important and integral local arts organization, it is our great pleasure to support them in kind. Show your pride and keep YOUR local film arts organization thriving and fulfilling its mission to strengthen, connect, and reflect diverse communities through queer film and media.
As part of an eclectic electric night, RPlace HOSTESS extraordinaire Lady Chablis weaves her female illusionists into the evening as well as electronic synth-dance-cabaret, Vintage Youth featuring one of last years models Giulio Pellcoolj. Vintage Youth reinterprets classic dance tracks, bringing them stomping into the future with pop-cabaret aesthetics and electro-disco beats.
Note that the run-walk will take place on 19 June.
