We are fortunate within the FGG to have vocal men and women always ready to speak up for Gay Games cultural participants at those moments when we start to focus only on sports. Attending the gala concert at the University of Music and Dance was a bit of an eye-opener for me, and has gone some way to making me one of the "and culture, too!" people.
I know that culture has been part of the Gay Games since their very beginning, but it was fantastic to see the principles I knew in Gay Games sports transposed to the cultural program: participation, inclusion, and personal best, and the encounter of musicians from so many places with so much to share with each other and with an enthusiastic audience.
The concert was of good quality, with a great atmosphere in line with the casual and joyful feeling of these Gay Games. It was also fun to see people I know from other areas performing, and performing so well. I have already done a post about FGG board members Doug Litwin and Emy Ritt, but I didn't want to forget Erin Frawley, a dedicated FGG volunteer and delegate, or our 2010 Legacy Award winners Connie Moore and Loren McGlade.
