An Outsports round-up: An amazing month in gay sport, Gumbel commentary on gays in sports, Charles Barkley interview

Outsports Jocktalk Blog has, as usual, some great posts which we want to share:

The gayest sports month ever: Jim Buzinski notes all the amazing news, good, bad, and good-then bad-then-good, of the month.

Bryant Gumbel addresses gays in sports tonight on HBO: Outsports has this quote from newscaster Gumbel's commentary: Look, I know it’s easy for me to sit here and hope for the day when someone else sticks their neck out, but amid estimates that perhaps two-to-six percent of all guys are not heterosexual, it is sad and absurd to think of just how many athletes today might be feeling compelled to essentially hide in plain sight at games we all enjoy – simply because of their sexual orientation.

Charles Barkley: ‘I’d rather have a gay guy who can play than a straight guy who can’t play’: A look at former NBA basketball player Barkley's outstanding interview in the Washington Post, with this quote from Barkley: Any professional athlete who gets on TV or radio and says he never played with a gay guy is a stone-freakin’ idiot,” Barkley said. “I would even say the same thing in college. Every college player, every pro player in any sport has probably played with a gay person.
