From Positively Cleveland:
The annual Parade the Circle event, June 11 at noon, brings more than 60,000 visitors to Wade Oval in University Circle to celebrate the arts and many unique cultures prevalent in the region. Stilt-walkers hover high above the crowds as a pack of walking martinis walk in their brilliant costumes or tribal dancers in original, handmade costumes pass by. Other carefully created floats and costumes make their way around the circle in this free event that draws visitors from around the globe. After the parade, children and adults can enjoy many free arts and crafts projects, as well as food and beverages for sale. Many of the area museums throughout University Circle offer day-of discounts. www.universitycircle.org
A newer event to the summer festival scene, the Weapons of Mass Creation Festival on Saturday and Sunday, aims to “inspire and enable the creative mind.” Now in its 2nd year, the festival brings together talented musicians, artists and speakers to foster a community creation at various locations in the Gordon Square Arts District. Tickets for the festival are available in advance for $25 for both days, and $15 per day for an all-day pass. These tickets are valid for all speakers, the design show and band performances. To purchase tickets at the door for individual events, the cost is $10 for speakers and $5 for bands. www.wmcfest.com
** Lolly the Trolley service will be provided from 10am-8pm between the Gordon Square Arts District and Parade the Circle festivities.
The Cleveland Indians have gone country with the Indians Music Festival, June 11 at 4pm. The star-studded line-up of country performers includes Blake Shelton and Jerrod Neimann, and is headlined by Grammy award-winning performer Brad Paisley. Other outdoor activities include dunk tanks, slip’n’slides, fishing simulators and more fun in the sun all day long at Progressive Field. www.cleveland.indians.mlb.com/cle/fan_forum/musicfestival.jsp
An annual favorite on the shores of Cleveland’s great Lake Erie is the North Coast Harbor Boating and Fishing Festival. The event, from 11am-6pm on June 11 and 11am-5pm on June12, features free powerboat and sailboat rides, as well as children’s fishing trips for free. This year also features new boats on the water, including a 20-person dragon boat canoe, perfect for a great lake workout. For visitors with weak sea-legs plenty of fun is available on shore such as entertainment by Capt’n Willie and a land-based boat simulator. Hamburgers, hot dogs, beverages and other refreshments are available. www.boatingfest.com
