Live from Cologne report by Julio Aponte, Cleveland
As of 11:30 am this morning (in Cologne), 3 swimmers from Ohio had won medals at the Gay Games.
Julie Applegate: gold - 200 Individual Medley
Scott Campea: bronze - 200 Individual Medley
Julio Aponte: gold - 400 Individual Medley; silver - 200 Individual Medley
Julio did the traditional Peak( getting to the top of your performance), Taper (decrease your training for a week) and Shave (shaving decreases resistance and makes the swimmer more hydrodynamic).
Today is just the second day of competition and the swimmers were ready, we have seen several records broken. There is an outdoor pool and the air has been cold. Rain has been light and occasional. Backstroke is difficult in full sun or with rain, but a lot of the competitors have to do it regardless of the conditions.
