Video flashback in honor of new Rock and Roll Hall of Fame exhibition: Melissa Etheridge homage to Janis Joplin

From the
Cleveland Plain Dealer, an update on the coming exhibition at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:

"Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power" opens Friday, May 13. It will run through Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012.

"We're going to show how women have played an important role in the development of popular music," says Jim Henke, the Rock Hall's vice president of exhibitions and curatorial affairs.

To coincide with the exhibit opening, the Rock Hall's annual spring benefit concert Saturday, May 14, at Public Auditorium will include performances by Rock Hall inductees Wanda Jackson, Darlene Love and Mavis Staples, among others.

Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Joni Mitchell, Yoko Ono, Madonna, Britney Spears and Alicia Keys will be among the 70-plus artists showcased in the exhibit. It will highlight not only rockers, but also noteworthy women representing pop, country, R&B, hip-hop, disco and other genres.

We're counting down the days to the exhibit opening with a series of videos from the Rock Hall archives, showcasing female artists.

In today's installment [Gay Games Ambassador] Melissa Etheridge pays tribute to Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Janis Joplin with a performance of "Piece of My Heart" at the 1995 induction ceremony. Joplin was inducted that year.
