Here's an extract of a profile of a Gay Games VIII athlete. Read the full profile in Living in the Queer Times HERE:
I am 46 years old and a Spanish and German high school teacher. I competed in cycling at the 2006 Games in Chicago. Next July in Cologne, Germany, I will be back in competitor mode—in sailing, though.
My [Cologne] goal is to sail as best I can and work as part of an amazing sailing team. Having previously lived and worked in Germany, I hope to also use my knowledge of the culture and language to work as a go-between among the German organizers and my American teammates so that all goes as smoothly as possible. Being a fan of the Games and the sport, I want to do all I can in order to promote and make these Cologne Games be as successful as possible.
