Young "Golden Gate Alliance Wrestling" athlete tells his story of coming out

In the sport column published today in the Bay Area Reporter, Jaime Loo, a 17-year-old senior at Mission High School in San Francisco, tells his inspiring story about coming out as a high school wrestler.

Loo's head coach is Federation for Gay Games volunteer Roger Brigham, who met Loo through his work in San Francisco Alliance Wrestling, which won the 2009 FGG Legacy Award for Coaching and Youth Outreach.

"Alliance does make a difference," Loo said. "You can see ho much improved we are through the Alliance. I would like to help with the Alliance club after I graduate."

Excerpt:

"There are many reasons," he said when I asked him why he was telling me his story. "One is because I had a little bit of a taste of what coming out means to me. There's a sense of freedom with it, and not letting society tell me what I should expect to be. People believe that it's hard, but it would help other kids to know it's better than they think it will be.
