FGG Ambassador takes silver in powerlifting championships

After Judith Arndt's silver in cycling, Chris Morgan takes silver in deadlift. Congratulations!

Chris Morgan, the current Gay Games Powerlifting champion has won a silver medal at the European ‘Single’ Event Powerlifting Championships.

He was lifting in the European Deadlift Championships, held in Sliema in Malta.and made lifts of 210 kilos followed by 240 kilos, before then attempting and narrowly missing 265 kilos at a bodyweight of 82.3 kilos.

Speaking about the competition, Chris said: ‘I’m a disappointed to once again to have missed out on a gold medal at the European Championships, but end the year celebrating my Gold medals collected in both the British and World Championships earlier in this year. I’m also grateful for the positive experience’s provided by the Gay Games, which were held in Cologne, Germany this past August’.

‘The message regarding my future career is still the same as my announcement in August, with my retirement from full powerlifting (Squat, Bench Press and Deadlift) events now confirmed. The intention is to continue in ‘Single Event’ Deadlift competitions, as previously indicated.

‘I take great encouragement from the fact that I’ve won two world ‘Open’ championships in this discipline, but have never specifically trained for the event. After narrowly missing out twice in the overall ‘best lifter’ at the World ‘Single’ Event Championships, I still feel there is some unfinished ahead of any full retirement’,
