Greater Cleveland Sports Awards

From the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, a member of the host organization for Gay Games IX:

The biggest night in Cleveland sports is back…and you're invited!

It's more than just a game at the 2010 Greater Cleveland Sports Awards! Join us on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel for an unforgettable evening of sports tributes and highlights, exciting multi-media presentations and your favorite sports celebrities all in one room! Bid on autographed sports memorabilia and unique entertainment experiences in the silent auction, while enjoying a great dinner!

Presented by Medical Mutual of Ohio and Collection Auto Group, this star-studded gala recognizes the best and brightest in Cleveland's amateur and professional sports and showcases the excitement and enthusiasm our community has for its sports teams and athletes past, present and future. Celebrity emcees, sports icons and a great deal of media attention create an event that consistently boasts attendance levels exceeding 1,000. In the past, Sports Awards has been emceed by such greats as Kirk Herbstreit, Jim Nantz, Bob Costas, Dan Patrick, Chris Rose, Roy Firestone, Greg Gumbel, Robin Roberts and Bill Walton. This year, we are proud to add Mike Tirico, ESPN Monday Night Football Broadcaster, to this distinguished list.

The Greater Cleveland Sports Awards were created in 2000 by the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission as its annual fundraising event. Over the past 11 years, the Sports Awards has become the Sports Commission's largest fundraiser and supplies the organization with a significant portion of its operating budget. This benefit enables the Sports Commission, a non-profit organization, to continue its mission to measurably enhance the economy, image and quality of life in the Greater Cleveland community. Since being re-established in 2000, the Sports Commission has been responsible for attracting and creating more than a hundred events and activities to the Greater Cleveland area, generating nearly $300 million in economic activity.
