New gay softball Hall of Fame inductee has plans for Gay Games XI in San Diego

From the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News article on new inductee to the NAGAAA Hall of Fame George Biagi:

The one-time press secretary to both City Councilwomen Christine Kehoe and Toni Atkins, Biagi has also served as Deputy Press Secretary to Mayor Jerry Sanders. Currently the Deputy Director of Legislative Services in the Office of the City Clerk, Biagi plans to retire after 20 years at City Hall - and he will be eligible to do so in 2016.

At that time, he says, he has big plans.

"I want to try and bring the Gay Games to San Diego in 2022," he said, "once the city finishes the trolley line to UCSD."

The idea isn’t completely out of the blue. Biagi has competed in Gay Games in other cities as an athlete, so he’s familiar with what it takes to put on a good event, and what to avoid. He thinks San Diego could do it right.

"We have a highly organized sports community here, with a lot of great leagues and teams," he continued. "My vision is that each one could run their part of the Games. Softball could run Softball, the San Diego Tennis Federation could run tennis, we have swimming, football, bowling, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, soccer, running, the list goes on. Virtually every sport in the Games we already do here, and we do it well."

"Plus," he added slyly, "who wouldn’t want to come to San Diego?"

Thanks for picking up this story. I'm eager to meet with the GG's folks soon to get the lay of the land so that I can begin to organize well in advance of our bid date, which I'm assuming would be 2016 for GG XI in 2022.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling George. San Diego is the perfect city for GG. We've got sublime weather, an outdoor culture, and a well-established gay sports scene. Let's make it happen!
