Madam Minister, dear friends,
You have granted us the honor of hosting here tonight the French team that will soon be participating in the Gay Games in Cologne.
You have supported nearly 500 French athletes. Financially, by covering a large share of the cost of these uniforms, and more importantly, morally, by allowing us to use the word “France” on them. We will do our best to honor this name by our athletic performances and our human values.
You already honored us last May by inviting us to a round table with the presidents of French national sports federations to promote the signature of a charter against homophobia in sport.
These actions are for the long term: this is the first time in the 20 years of our Federation that the Ministry of Sports has listened to us, has offered us recognition, and has supported our actions. This has been done both by the senior minister for health and sports Roselyne Bachelot and by yourself.
On these uniforms you can see our motto: Against all forms of discrimination, let’s play sport together. It seems obvious to us that the fight against discrimination, whether racist, sexist, or homophobic, are struggles of the same nature, and that our Federation must go beyond the interests of our community to defend the universal values of living together in society.
As an example, more than ten years ago, we homosexuals fought for and obtained the creation of civil unions. Today they are used by the entire population, and for the most part by straight couples.
The emancipation of one group does not come at the cost of rights of another. On the contrary, the progress of one represents and advance for all. This is why we hope that the movement our federation represents will benefit the entire sporting community.
We are fighting for a world in which we are a vital part. Let us play on the same team with the goal of equal rights.
At the Gay Games, everyone can participate: whatever their sexual orientation, their age, their origins. As the founder of the modern Olmpic Games, Pierre de Coubertin, said: “what’s important is participating”.

Madame la Ministre, chers sportives et sportifs,
Vous nous faites l’honneur, Madame, de recevoir ce soir la délégation française qui participe d’ici quelques jours aux Gay Games de Cologne.
Ce sont près de 500 Françaises et Français que vous avez soutenus financièrement en subventionnant en grande partie cette tenue, et surtout moralement, en nous autorisant à y faire paraître le mot « France », que nous tenterons d’honorer par nos performances sportives et nos valeurs humaines.
Vous nous avez déjà honoré le 17 mai dernier en nous invitant à une table ronde avec les Présidents de fédérations sportives françaises pour promouvoir la signature de la charte contre l’homophobie dans le sport.
Ces actions s’inscrivent dans la durée : c’est la première fois en plus de vingt ans d’existence de notre Fédération que le Ministère des Sports écoute, reconnaît et soutient nos actions. Nous avons été reçus par Mme Roselyne Bachelot et par vous-même.
Sur ces tenues figure notre devise : « Contre les discriminations, faisons du sport ensemble ». Il nous semble évident que les luttes contre les discriminations, qu’elles soient racistes, sexistes, ou homophobes, sont des combats du même ordre, et que notre fédération doit dépasser des intérêts communautaires étroits pour faire valoir des valeurs universelles du vivre ensemble.
A titre d’exemple, il y a plus de dix ans, nous les gays et lesbiennes, nous avons milité, avec succès, pour la création du PACS. Aujourd’hui celui-ci profite à toute la population, et majoritairement aux couples mixtes. L’émancipation d’un groupe ne se fait pas au détriment d’un autre : au contraire, .le progrès des uns représente une avancée pour tous. C’est ainsi que nous espérons que la dynamique lancée par notre fédération profitera aussi à l’ensemble du monde sportif.
Nous nous battons pour un monde dont nous faisons partie ;
faisons équipe ensemble pour que nos droits soient égaux.
Aux Gay Games, tout le monde peut participer, qu’importe son orientation sexuelle, son âge, ses origines. Comme le disait Pierre de Coubertin « l’essentiel est de participer ».
